What Is Speech Therapy?
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) diagnose and treat disorders related to speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing. Home-based speech therapy allows patients to work on these skills in a comfortable, familiar setting — which often accelerates progress.
Conditions We Treat
- Aphasia and language disorders following stroke
- Dysarthria (slurred or unclear speech)
- Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
- Voice disorders
- Cognitive-communication disorders (following TBI)
- Stuttering and fluency disorders
- Speech delays in children
Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) are a serious and often overlooked consequence of stroke. Early intervention from a speech therapist significantly reduces the risk of aspiration pneumonia and malnutrition.
What to Expect
Your therapist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation, set realistic goals, and provide structured therapy sessions. Family members are often included in sessions to support the patient's progress between visits.
